One of the things that people ask before learning German is how long it will take them to speak the language with ease. It depends on how you practise, how you learn and why you learn the language. A person interested in a career in Germany might require more capabilities than a person who wants to learn German to travel. A German Language Course in Chennai can offer a structured beginning, but learners can only make a start with vocabulary and grammar if they practice regularly outside the classroom.

Fluency really means...

This does not mean that you need to know all German words, or that you do not make mistakes when speaking German.Fluency does not mean that you know all German words, or that you say nothing wrong when you speak German. It means being able to communicate, listen and interact with others without pausing between sentences. A beginner can answer basic questions and introduce themselves, an advanced learner can tell about work, express his/her views and comprehend more difficult conversations. When determining the time needed, keep your personal objective in mind. You might not need as long as another person who is preparing for studies at university or for a job in Germany.

Each level may take as long as 6 hours.

German proficiency is classified in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) into six levels ranging from A1 to C2. A1 is designed to help learners understand simple expressions and interact in simple situations, and A2 is suitable for learners to participate in familiar everyday conversations. B1 and B2 are higher levels of independent communication, with C1 and C2 being advanced levels. This will depend on the level of study and language background. Learners at FITA Academy will have a structured learning path and will progressively practise each level instead of having fluency after a few minutes of basic lessons.

The importance of practicing daily.

Learning German for an hour daily may be more beneficial than a lengthy class once a week and a complete lack of practice outside of class. Short daily sessions support your recall of words, pattern of sentences and pronunciation. Read out a short text, listen to German audio, or describe your daily activities in German. Ten minutes of speaking practice is helpful, if practiced in a consistent manner. The important thing is to make German a habit in your life, so that learning takes place outside the classroom as well as within.

Why Grammar and Vocabulary Take Time:

German grammar can seem strange at first because the nouns in the language are gendered, and the verb phrase uses specific sentence patterns, with the articles changing according to the case. They should have a solid vocabulary to comprehend questions and respond naturally as well. Learned rules will not make these skills automatic. Use new words in simple sentences and practice grammar in simple conversations. If you get the answer wrong, change it and repeat the sentence. The more you use it, the easier it is to pick up the patterns without having to remember all the grammar rules before you begin speaking.

Listening and speaking out of class.

Speaking German requires more time than reading it, because they link words together and may speak fast. Listening to easy level podcasts, videos and dialogues familiarizes you with natural speech and common expressions. Along with that speaking practice is a must. Record yourself answering common questions, read sentences out loud or find a language partner to help. Don't wait until you have perfect grammar before speaking. It's okay to make small errors as we are learning and by using the language regularly, you will become more comfortable with real conversations.

This will be covered in class.

The extent to which you practise, the quality of the materials you use and the opportunities to use German in life all have an impact on your progress. A person who reads regularly and converses with people can learn at a more rapid rate than a person who works through only the problems in the text book. The speed of the comprehension of structures in German can also be influenced by your first language and by the way you learned other languages. Clear goals are useful for maintaining focus whether you're getting ready to take a language exam, study abroad, or simply communicate with colleagues in Germany. It's important to check in with yourself monthly to make adjustments to your plan.

Learning German is not a race! With dedicated study, practice speaking and listening regularly, you can gain confidence gradually. The learning objectives for learners who are planning for work or further education should be suitable for their needs and leave sufficient time for practice. German Language Classes in Velachery can be structured in a way that enables you to communicate in the language in a manner that is beneficial outside of class.
